Project Overview

For individuals, home is the place where family members bond, unite, and belong. It is only when individuals interact with each other in a shared living space that it embodies and realizes the meaning of “home.” This project is a house located halfway up the mountain, considered the homeowner’s future retirement home, and a guest house. The overall color palette of black, white, gray, and brown has been set as the primary spatial focus, and the textured lines of stone and wood are used to create an elegant and refined modern aesthetic. Through the water imagery, the space is designed with smooth and curved lines.

Project Brief

Overall, the house’s interior space is delicately proportioned in terms of color scheme planning and the use of material so that the space is well coordinated. On top of that, the designers re-planned the initial basic conditions of good lighting and ventilation to bring out the best quality of the residence. Additionally, each space embodies different connotations of meaning and the psychological state of the residents, so the stories are told through the appearance of the space. The open layout of the common area not only allows for free movement but also symbolizes the close relationship between each family member.

Project Need

The dining room, with wooden flooring, comes with a unique combination of a wine cabinet, a fireplace, and a heat insulation design to keep the quality of wine in good condition. The air is filled with a romantic and relaxing atmosphere as diners enjoy the food and wine while looking out the window. The light brown, white, and black colors are set as the primary color scheme, with some metal objects disclosing a light and luxurious texture. Since the homeowner has a hobby of keeping fish, the designer has ingeniously integrated the center island bar in the kitchen with the geomancy fish tank to create a practical end-view art in the space. The Geomancy fish tank is created by the designer, who has selected the environmental materials to demonstrate an unparalleled landscape art by introducing the natural ecological landscape into the interior space. By extending the element of water to the outdoor pool, the semi-outdoor layout provides a space for children to play in the water and to look at the beautiful scenery in the distance, providing a fun and intriguing lifestyle.

Design Challenge

As one opens the brown door to the interior, one will notice the ceiling designed with a distinctive upward sloping curve that extends from the entrance to the living and dining room, quietly opening up the visual space. The flowing marble floor tiles in the living room bring a sense of dynamism to the static carriers. Besides, the living room is colored in taupe, with a few wood grains and black objects to convey a simple texture. On top of that, a gap, intentionally planned by the designer, separates the white marbled TV wall cabinet to create an artistic effect of framing and simultaneously increase the sense of visual penetration. The back wall is indirectly illuminated by the installation at the beveled corner below the staircase, cleverly separating the division into two parts and harmonizing the geometric table in the living room. Along the other side of the wood-grained wall, a hidden pull-out cabinet is installed to make good use of the misplaced space and meet the homeowner's needs for storage. In the living and dining room interface, the dark stone wall combines the fireplace design to demonstrate a warm and calm atmosphere, making the visitor feel the warmth of home intuitively.
Upstairs, the light tones of beige and brown are used to elaborate the room with elegance, and the warm wood softens the coldness of the interior space, giving the residence a comfortable and gorgeous charm.

Sustainability

By setting up bay windows in different directions inside the house, the designer has successfully introduced the sunlight indoors so that the interior space is bathed in sunlight and the client’s demand for sufficient light sources is satisfied. Accordingly, it reduces the use of electric lights, lowers electricity consumption, and realizes the idea of energy-saving and carbon reduction. The ventilation design is appropriately planned to maintain air circulation and indoor air quality.
