Project Overview
Saint Augustine, a theologian and philosopher, once said, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” This client's favorite saying is planned as the wall decoration at the hotel’s entrance to share the nature and amazingness of traveling with the visitors. For this project, the designer has set the migratory bird as the theme of the space, symbolizing the return of the tired birds to their nests, hoping that travelers can experience a heart-warming accommodation that feels like home.

Project Brief
Standing in front of the door, one will notice the gray and blue color scheme standing out from the background. The solid wood panels on the ceiling and floor are reassembled from old materials. As the former hotel has run for nearly fifty years, many old mattresses were to be scrapped. However, after a discussion with the client, the designer decided that the old materials would be retained and rebuilt into a new look with the concept of making the best use of them. Upon entering the foyer, one will be impressed by the migratory bird decorated in the space, combined with the words on the blue wall, highlighting the theme. Walking along the turf ceiling, individuals will feel relaxed and refreshed. Besides, some design details can be found on the firefighting equipment, which brings a sense of fun. Moving slowly to the bedroom in the personal living area, the primary spatial focus of the space is made of raw concrete and white tile wall wallpaper and wood grain flooring, giving the room a light industrial style. On the other hand, the hangers are made of black iron pipes to create the hotel's name and echo the space’s style. Interestingly, elements related to the local surroundings and culture, such as railroad tracks, night scenes, and tourist spots, are adopted as bedside wallpaper patterns so that the indoor space and outdoor scenery can reflect each other. The migratory bird-shaped lamp hanging in the room reverberates the theme.
Project Innovation/Need
Upstairs, the designers cleverly use old items to illustrate the number of each floor, which not only implements the concept of reusing resources but also turns it into a unique and artistic design. The floor numbers are made from a combination of wooden slats inside the mattress, white legs for fixing, black rollers for the mobile bed, and a honeycomb-like light source, which is innovative and brilliant.
Design Challenge
This project takes environmental protection as an initiative so that the reused resources can offer their maximum value. Through the designers' ingenuity, the old furniture components are combined with modern style design to create a new look for objects, giving them a different color and meaning. Moreover, the elements inspired by the local landscape elements are injected into the space to create a spatial story exclusive to this place.
Sustainability
The wood used in this project is all dismantled from the old furniture of the original hotel. Since the wood materials used at the previous establishment were in good condition, the designer recycled all of them to realize the concept of environmental preservation. In addition, the floor numbers in the staircase lobby are made from the mattress components that were to be scrapped, and the same type of components was combined to make the staircase, which also realizes the idea of recycling.
