Project Overview
This design contains five elements of ‘health, planting, air, environmental protection, transformation’. ‘Renovation of the old house’ is carrying many meaningful spatial structures and beautiful qualities. The shop is located at Dadun 7 street in the quiet and old area in Taichung city, the signboard uses metal curtains to add a modern sense to the old building, and the interior space design is surrounded by curved wood walls and many plants, plus solar-powered lighting, hoping to reproduce the old-good- day relationships between people, enviroment and culture.

Project Overview
The shop is located in the five-stage re-zoning area in Taichung city. In the past, most of the re-planning was agricultural land. After the re-draw in 1985, the five-phases area formed gradually the pleasant residence. After 30 years, many communities have matured and even got a little "historical taste". "Historical architecture" is carrying many meaningful spatial structures and beautiful qualities. How to face historical buildings, while at the same time, what attitude should we take to reflect it and even glorify it? It is the main challenge of this design..
The owner is a doctor with both Chinese and Western medicine licences. Doctor’s Chen hopes that he can use 20 years of clinical experience and turn it into a health tea and plant soap. With providing the people with the concept of daily health, he hope that the mall is no longer just selling things, but also selling a healthy concept and shop should be a commercial space with ‘human culture’.
Therefore, in addition to the most minor adjustments and the reuse of a small amount of waste materials, the main design direction is to green the shop and co-prosperize the community, and join the spirit of ’From the Doctor’s Care’. The shop is expected to become a small bright spot in the five-stage re-zone and shop corner is designed as a small garden, so that the people has a place to take a rest and chat. In addition to the greening function, the small garden may also be a small keypoint that connects each people of the old community.
Project Brief
Small Cornor Garden
The corner space of the public space, the pebble floor is matched with the curved groove that can prevent the water from slipping in the rainy day. The flooring boundary is made of pepper tree pot and the spicy smell of pepper tree can drive away the mosquitoes in the summer!
National Flower Tile Wall: 9.5 meters long and 3.0 meters high, carving by the Xu master, hand-painted, 21 pieces, representing for 15 nations (including Taiwan plum, Japanese cherry, American rose, German cornflower, Chinese peony, Italian daisies, Greek olives, French fragrant roots, Russian sunflowers, Korean hibiscus, HongKong buhinia, English roses, Spanish carnations, Swiss velvet, Dutch tulips). Each tile, after the staff carving, composition, pinch modeling, put it into 1200 degrees high temperature. After two-stage burning, each tile’s bottom must be flat, or it can not be attached to the wall. Together with the plant wall and national tile , represent that this shop provide many excellent plant extracts of various countries. Also hope to create a public small garden for this Taichung historic community. In addition to the greening function, the small garden also allows the people have a place to rest and chat, and to connect each other’s relationship.
Project Innovation/Need
Arcade / Galaxy Sky
The light of Ginkgo biloba leaves comes from the ceiling of the shop, matched with the special spot light source like the Galaxy in the sky, freely shuttling inside and outside the shop. Hope all of our life can be healthy like ginkgo, longevity such as the galaxy starry sky.
Column planting wall: the negative side of column is covered with 856 epipremnum aureum, and the positive side of column is covered with 86 Zebrina pendula. Greening arcade space as much as possible, so the arcade can also enjoy the energy of greening, no longer just as a channel.
The shop is located in a relatively historic five-stage rezoning area in Taichung city. The shop's exterior is made up of large pieces of glass. In addition to a large amount of light entering the shop space, it is also hoped that the shop will be more energetic.
Design Challenge
Butterfly River Wall / Display Products
Butterfly River Wall, composed of 1275 China firs, different heights and thicknesses, representing the different width and height of Taiwan river, is made by woodworking master Cai, master Li and master Wang. With no any nails, complex assembly and time-consuming for 3month, the butterfly river wal symbolize 129 rivers in Taiwan. The metal butterfly and butterfly specimens on the top area, matched with the China firs, is the origin of naming "Butterfly River Wall". Hope to remind the Chinese Philosophy : After flowers bloom, Butterflies will come. It means that as long as the quality of the goods is good, the guests will come.

Sustainability
Recycling Energy Plant Wall
Solar panels can generate 1.305 watts of electricity per day, reduce 832 grams of carbon emissions, and generate electricity for environmental protection. The plant wall is composed of 76 Zebrina pendula and 221 common jasmin orange. In addition to planning by horticultural experts, five senior staff and boss of this shop also participate the planting. In addition to providing oxygen and carbon reduction, urban birds could take a break just right over here. The water source of the plant wall comes from the waste water generated by the reverse osmosis and the cooling-condensation of the air conditioner. If there is excess waste water, it will enter the small pool filled with fish and lemna minor. Maybe could not save a lot of water, but it is worth mentioning for the environmental care!
FineHerbs Signboard
The signboard with a length of 17.56 meters and a height of 4.1 meters is a theme of 7025 pieces, 6 type sizes (2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5 cm) handmade cross-shaped holes. This 7,025 cross-shaped holes want to symbolize the doctor’s spirit of the founder of the FineHerbs. The professional master's handmade engraving also echoes the spirit of this shop. The design of the sagittal hollow, hope that the day sunshine can enter indoor space, and therefore achieve energy-saving and carbon-reducing. The concept of the middle leaf vein divider line is from the concept of taking the leaves of plant leaves, metaphor that this shop sales somethings about for plant-related products.
The smalll led-light signboard of ‘From the Doctor's Care’ embossed in the sighboard, hope sincerely could brand the store's brand spirit into the signboard.

This award celebrates innovative and creative building interiors, with consideration given to space creation and planning, furnishings, finishes and aesthetic presentation. Consideration given to space allocation, traffic flow, building services, lighting, fixtures, flooring, colours, furnishings and surface finishes.
