Project Overview

The space of over 180 square meters in Xinzhuang is an elegant residence for a young couple. The designer adopts the wood veneer and splash-ink landscape stone grain, to inject a warm and elegant atmosphere into the space. Moreover, the wood veneer from the ceiling to the wall, perfectly matches the black stone in the color, and also covers the low ceiling and stores the equipment and pipeline; through the height difference between the living room ceiling and well-arranged materials, it implicitly divides the different functions of public space, while maintaining the continuity of the space style.

Project Brief

The designer uses the warm gray Angela pearl marble as the main tone and material of public space, showing the warm natural luster; and on the layout, the designer plans a large log desk after the dining table and makes the bookcase the background wall concurrently, avoiding the production of too many compartments, and also making the public space more spacious.

The designer also uses the color of wood to hide the storeroom, public toilet and room door without a trace, which makes the vision more elegant and concise. As to the curtain, the designer chooses an organ shade that occupies little space, to make the public field more spacious.

Project Innovation/Need

The designer used wood grain, stone and other natural materials, to lay the warm foundation of public space, and combines the wood veneer, metal and other materials to make a large bookcase with hidden lighting to make it more delicate.
The designer used the light bar on the wall to brighten the space, then adopts the large glazed window in the public space to introduce the bright sunlight and the urban landscape from outdoors with marble floor and black stone with a splash-ink landscape image to blend an Oriental artistical conception into the space and echo with the stone material of the bookcase in the rear, along with the stable log long desk.
In the kitchen design, the designer lets the kitchen of the former house hide behind the open island to decrease the daily cooking smells cleverly and also hold a proper balance between the practicality and visual aesthetic feeling of public space.

Design Challenge

How to make the overall space have visual continuity was the challenge for this case. The designer used wood grain as the main visual throughout the space to achieve this. For example, subtly hiding the wood grain joint with the metal plate at the entrance, or making the doors hidden to reduce the interruption of the visual continuity.

Sustainability

This project uses natural wood grain and stone as the main building materials, such as solid wood furniture and black stone shelves, both of which are not only durable and strong but also easy to clean. They not only reduce the consumption of building materials but also add an artistic atmosphere to the space.
