Project Overview

With the evolution of technology, tile application exceeds traditional impression as a recycled and environmental-friendly building material.
Technology breakthroughs have also created diverse possibilities in size, shape, and texture, thus rich opportunities to add value to buildings.

This project is located in the urban area of Taichung City; the flagship store of the well-known building materials brand "Champion Tile". Celebrating Champion’s 50th Anniversary, this building lights up the brand at a whole new altitude.

Project Brief

The interior design concept is based on the mathematic infinity code "∞", an implication of Champion's sustainable brand mission. This open space with smooth moving curves flips traditional tile showrooms with a flexible spatial perception.

Entering the showroom, the minor arc on the left side of "∞" is the reception counter, and the large arc on the right is a multiple-function salon space where lifestyle events and diverse exhibitions are held for customer gatherings. Contrasting colors of floor and ceiling sets subtle boundaries of different space functions. Slim tiles are presented in the image of a gallery, an elegant venue of pure black and white.

The architect extends the infinity concept throughout the building. The second-floor left side arc is the Material Selection section where tiles are organized by size and texture under different lighting atmospheres, the right side arc is staged flat with a variety of tile applications in the home ambient.

Project Innovation/Need

This flagship store provides building material and lifestyle material solutions and serves as a landmark standing out from the city skyline.
As a refurbished building project, the idea is to re-position the brand through the image of a gallery with lifestyle events: diverse exhibition venues, dynamic events, and most importantly customer gatherings.

The material Selection section is a new five-sense experience. Products are QR coded and provide complete product information and ambient images for clients to look at for inspiration. Clients sensitive to colors are welcome to pick favorite tones from the color chart on the wall.

A Rooftop Garden is a display of external tiles with a semi-open design available for outdoor events. The raised floor echoes external facade tiles, an extension of visual consistency. Clients will experience an outdoor breeze under the modern metal-framed glass roof.

This is a venue of tile and material solutions in the form of an art and lifestyle gallery, a new image for a '50-year young' leader of the industry.

Design Challenge

Infinity is designed with flexibility where samples and staged show flats can be seasonally refurbished with the latest trends, providing clients with a refreshing inspiration every visit.

It maintains the essence of the original design and reserves flexibility for future potential with seasonal spice.

Sustainability

This project is a cost-efficient solution for old building regeneration and a flip of the brand image through the image of a gallery. The majority of the building materials are sourced in Taiwan, including Champion's local production of recycled tiles, an actual effort to help reduce carbon emissions.

Infinity is the essence of the Champion brand and a renewal of the consumer experience journey.
