Over £4.9B of design projects has been recognised in this year’s London Design Awards as winners are announced. The impressive figure demonstrates the significant economic role that design plays in the city.

“The number of outstanding projects and the economic activity they represent clearly highlights how important design and creatives industries are to London,” said London Design Awards Chairman Mark Bergin.

Overall Design Champion was awarded to Hilton Worldwide for a suite of award winning projects. The best large studio was awarded to NBCUniversal, Brightec won the best medium sized studio and Cascade Studio was named the best small studio in the awards.

Other projects to win included the New Design Museum, the Apple Regent Street Store and the Serpentine Pavilion 2016. Mercedes Benz, Jaguar and Harrods were some of the notable brands to win an award.

Unique to the Awards, each award is shared between the commissioner and the designer; recognising that relationships and collaboration are at the heart of the design industry.

“It’s fantastic to see so many courageous design commissioners and designers collaborating and producing outstanding design projects. These relationships are essential to the design industry and need to be celebrated for the industry to continue it’s outstanding performance,” Mr Bergin said.

In total 44 Gold Awards and 60 Silver Awards were recognised in the multi disciplinary awards program across categories from architecture and interior design to digital, product and service design.
