Project Brief
In order to create a comfortable and close-to-nature dinning environment, MUDA leaves out walls, only using pillars and boards to lightly hide the building in the woods. Therefore the building is integrated with the original natural environment.
Project Innovation/Need
This project site is known for its superior ecology, where is very close to nature and far away from the noise. Therefore, MUDA seeks to construct a building, in harmony with the surrounding natural world, hiding lightly in the woods. The construction forms along the lake and naturally surrounds the lotus pond, look like the steams and smokes from the boiling pots curling between the pillars and trees. When eating hotpot, people is surrounded by great lake view, tree shadows, smell of flowers and whisper of birds, watching the steams from the boiling pot curling in the pillars and woods.
Design Challenge
The natural environment of the site is beautiful but complex. Tens of eucalyptus trees must be preserved, and the terrain is tortuous with a maximum drop of nearly 2 meters. In order to respect the natural environment and minimize human intervention in this natural site, MUDA conducted manual mapping and recorded of the site in person, and the building was designed according to the location of eucalyptus trees and lake. Moreover, the free curve of the roof is designed according to the site characteristics and function.
Sustainability
MUDA-Architects saw the project as an opportunity to experiment with small scale and low cost architecture. In order to pay the greatest respect to the ecological resources of the site, and to people get closer to nature, MUDA has kept all the plants in the site, and has not cut one tree down.
