Project Overview

Clipsal, part of Schneider Electric, have made it easier and more effective to plan, configure and quote Schneider Electric distribution boards with their elegant new user experience design on their platform FlexSelect.

Clipsal have established themselves as leaders in the electrical accessory market in Australia by being innovators and customer-led.

Their FlexSelect customer platform was a prime example of their continuous innovation. It started with an insight: circuit boards, a significant part of any electrical building project, are complicated to order. With global supply chain an issue for most manufacturing and construction projects, they can throw projects off timing milestones.

FlexSelect enables users to construct and quote the extensively customisable circuit boards with a rich feature set. But all those features, added over time, meant that now the existing user interface was out-dated, complicated and unintuitive.

It was time to innovate again. Clipsal set the goal of making FlexSelect the easiest tool on the market to use, without losing any of its functionality.

To fully benefit from this idea and seize the gap in the market, they reached out to us. We got to work with detailed customer research, journey mapping, user flow and design.

Now, wholesalers can build, quote, and personalise margins for contractors or end-users easily. Contractors can build proposed boards and request a quote.

The result is an elegant user experience that reduced click rates by over 30%, increasing repeat users and sales.

Project Brief

Clipsal is part of Schneider Electric (a 27.2 billion Euro headquartered in France), one of the leaders in electrical accessory products.

Clipsal set the goal of making FlexSelect the easiest tool on the market to use, without losing any of its functionality.
This was a bold goal but the rewards were rich. That was because this was an industry-wide “wicked problem”: none of the competition had successfully balanced the features and user-experience dichotomy, due to the complicated and customisation-heavy nature of the product.

That's why Clipsal focused on developing and improving tools for reducing friction during this process - giving wholesalers and contractors new opportunities to grow their business quickly in a very competitive industry.

Objectives

Make FlexSelect the easier tool to use on the market, so that we get the following results:
• Increase and attract regular, repeat users
• Converting existing audience on the platform to increase orders
• Reduce friction and lead times

Project Need

Clipsal needed to deliver an engaging and elegant new way for customers to plan, configure and quote Schneider Electric distribution boards.

User Experience

By working closely with Clipsal, we were able to understand their friction point in their customer journey and the objectives for each stage.

After conducting in-depth interviews with wholesalers, wire-framing, and refining the solution, we worked through clearer relationships and hierarchies that matched the requirements of the customers.

There are two key functions. The first function is a wholesaler view which allows users full functionality including the ability to quote personalised margins. The second is a contractor or retailer view which ends with a request for a quote from a wholesaler.

The innovative app allows users to create and configure their circuit boards wherever they are. In addition, they can design, label and drag-and-drop components into individual projects for future references, then get an instant quote for their customised configuration.

Once the board and pricing are confirmed, they can order it and deliver it directly from the platform.

The result is an elegant user experience that reduced click rates by up to 30%, increasing repeat users and sales.
