Project Brief
An urban color scheme of grey and walnut timber was used throughout the design, which creates different tones for the atmosphere. An intricate timber joinery arched bookshelf is adorned with antique books and rustic aesthetic timber furniture pieces. The installation of decorative artificial flowers enhances the visual qualities of the cafe’s calming palette, evoking another level of the atmosphere through the fancy injection. Where it naturally invites people to stay, chat, and have Insta-worthy snaps around the space.
Project Innovation/Need
A departure from the usual takeaway bubble tea store, Aurora is designed to offer its customers a cafe-like ambient space. The design was intended to support milk tea's social attributes and allow it to permeate into café culture and people's daily lives in a more relaxed and natural manner.
Through the incorporation of simplistic finishes, the decorative artificial flowers installation includes wall lights and a full-height abstract arched bookshelf. An inviting space that reflects the brand was created.
Design Challenge
A challenging aspect of this project was the unconventional design layout, the choice of materials to create a sense of space, the placement of furniture, and the feature “Instagrammable” corner that would like to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the space. We had to evaluate several options before deciding on the most appropriate style to satisfy the client's request for the impressive corner. The site conditions further complicated the process.
Sustainability
The majority of materials sourced or manufactured locally include sustainable timber panels for the shopfront, and laminate finish for the joinery as it is made from renewable materials, only harvested from renewable plantations. One of the considerations for the client in designing and delivering this venue was to use long-lasting finishes and sustainable practices. This leads us to use quartz stones for the counters. Compared to other countertops, Quartz is more durable and recyclable. All lighting uses LED technology for energy efficiency.
