Project Overview
An eye-catching triangular column screen on the right-hand side as you enter the foodcourt. Like a holographic effect, you will see different humorous messages when you come and go. Message can be changed time to time to keep a freshness mood to diners.
The warm cosy and friendly beige colour mixes interior together with wood looking finishes, colliding with lake blue-green and pleasant yellow-orange colour. Different types of seating make those spaces more interesting and vivid, making varieties of space for Diners.
Unlike many other conventional foodcourts, catering stalls were carefully scattered on layout, creating compartments with many spatial characteristic differences. Diners may pick their beloved-dining-area, to feel comfort and convenient. There is a community table with electrical sockets for users to carry out their work with their personal equipment.
To make it more special, a multi-functional space providing a pleasant and relaxing gathering place. One of the general dining areas can instantly turn into a special event venue to host causal office events or presentations, groups or private parties, or even DIY functions. Equipped with step-seating and a specially styled LED light feature wall background made of recycled glass bottles, featuring ever changing mood atmosphere with programmable messages and patterns.
In this project, Team JATO designed the environmental graphic and signage design for this project as well. In order to increase the fun in this space, we use our local slang as our signage contents, for example: "need-help" instead of "service-desk" etc.

Project Brief
The food court is located is inside the metropolis mall, next to the Hung Hom MTR Station. The Design area is around 2,000 SQM, serving people from residential towers above and the neighbourhood. It reaches its peaks when there is an event from the next-door Hong Kong Coliseum which houses a maximum audience of 12500.
During the design process, we not only needed to consider the perceptions of the people inside the food court, but also wanted people from the public transport interchange as well as from Hung Hom MTR Station would notice that there is a fresh and cosy dining space. Greenery was being hung down from ceiling along the glazing to make the food court more obvious and refreshing, space with greenery also could improve diners mental health.
Project Innovation/Need
Unlike many other conventional foodcourt dining areas, this is styled by light-hearted colour scheme and irregular seating arrangements.
Considered the way of seating reflect the time that customers will spending on, we designed to control the flow of the customers according to 3 different types of seats. Step seating is provided to let customer seat on it comfortably for long time, high table for fast turning over customers and flexible tables combination that allows to form from 2-seater table to a long table. Furniture is mix and match style which give the energetic and refreshing atmosphere in the foodcourt. Different types of seating make those spaces more interesting and vivid, making varieties of space for diners. However, what really sets it apart is the presence of some community social tables, completed with electrical sockets for users to carry out their works with their personal equipment.
Catering stalls were carefully scattered on layout, which make this foodcourt comparted with many spatial characteristic differences. Diners may pick their beloved dining area, according to their comfort and convenient.

Design Challenge
1. As the Led Feature wall in Party Room is made of recycled bottles, client hold a campaign in their shopping mall asked public to bring their used glass bottles to exchange shopping voucher.
2. Environmental graphic design was amended more than 20 times to get final approval from client.
3. Due to the power supply shortage in mainland in Q3 and Q4 of 2021, most of the manufacturer only able to do production less than 25% of their normal office hours, thus most of the material and joinery were not able to deliver to construction site on time , which resulted in the construction being completed late.
Sustainability
Along the 36-meter curtain wall, we use auto dimmable lights to achieve energy saving. The daylight sensors-controlled roller blinds with 5 level settings, are preventing glare and heat coming from direct sunlight.
As we are now in Covid-19 age, Smixin hand washing station is installed which improved hygiene through a fully automatic, touchless hand washing process and also helps up to 90% water savings. Three services station is equally distributed for tray return, self-service hot drinking water point for diners is installed.
