Project Brief

The FORGO HOME gift kit includes a flameless fragrance, reed diffusers, a scented candle and a hand cream. Both a fragrance kit and miniature sculptures, the product set boasts an exceptional decorative appeal due to Forgo’s interior design background. Adopting a sculptural form instead of a traditional one, the containers, which combine decorative and functional properties, make the product kit more memorable compared with other similar products in the market.

Project Innovation/Need

The design of the flameless fragrance reveals the ingenuity of function and aesthetics. The curved bottom line of the container endows the liquid fragrance with a visible form and becomes an exquisite home decoration as well. The body of the container inherits the essence of the art-deco style of Shanghai architecture — which features a sense of order and symmetrical lines, to present an elegant and exquisite artistic taste. Made of glass, the container is reminiscent of the scene where the sunlight is shed through the stained glass of old Shanghai houses, which appears iridescent and dreamy.

The container of the scented candle is designed in the same shape as that of the flameless fragrance, making the two more integral. Its base is more simplified with a purer curvature, and its body is shorter than the flameless fragrance’s container. The scented candle’s container has a darker base, to emphasize the color gradation and meanwhile add a bit of playfulness.

The hand cream comes in a hard aluminum tube, a special material that leaves a mark every time the user squeezes it. By keeping a record of each use, it bears testimony to the user’s connection with the brand. The round cap is made from wood, with a cotton label strip, showing the natural, skin-friendly feel of the product that aims to take care of the hands.

Design Challenge

According to market research by Mood Media, a customer experience marketing solutions provider, 75% of all emotions generated every day are due to smell. In the post-pandemic era, scent has become the first choice for increasingly more people under the pressure of the epidemic, work and life to soothe their emotions and improve their quality of life.

As a local brand from Shanghai, the logo of FORGO HOME is inspired by the magnolia flower that represents the city. With its Shanghai genes, the lifestyle brand inherits the spirit of simplicity, elegance and eternity in space design. Taking life and emotion as the core, it is dedicated to carrying forward the inclusiveness of Shanghai culture, creating a warm and exquisite home environment, and combining the individual perception of “home” with the unique style of local culture. The brand hopes that every customer feels “it’s good to be home” when they step into the door.

Sustainability

The design respects local culture and materials and cares about environmental protection and material reuse. It endows the product containers with the flexibility to suit different scenarios, such as being used as fragrance containers, vases, or decorative ornaments for a long time. The designers intended to minimize their carbon footprint by choosing local suppliers (including glass manufacturers, ingredient producers, and graphic designers for packaging) and working with those who are socially conscious and adhere to the principles of sustainability and fair trade.

All product packaging is made of eco-friendly art paper that is replaceable and reusable. The raw materials, packaging and waste created throughout the manufacturing process can be recycled without causing damage to the environment. The design team tried to make the whole process sustainable, with the least possible impact on the planet.

The design team hoped to show FORGO HOME’s ecological and social responsibility throughout the design and manufacturing processes.

This award celebrates creativity and innovation for either a product design at conceptual stage - an early sample or model of a product that has not reached the manufacture stage nor available to the market.
